What This Is

I’ve been in this work for more than twenty years.

In that time, I’ve sat with artists and cultural leaders doing purposeful work. I’ve helped stabilize organizations navigating impossible moments, and I’ve watched brilliant, talented people — full of passion and vision — struggle to sustain, evolve, and scale the work they’ve already built.

That gap — between what someone is building and what others are able to understand about it — is where I live professionally. It’s the work I do through O.Y.A. Strategies, and it’s what this publication is about.

This isn’t a tips newsletter. I’m not going to tell you the five things every cultural organization needs to do right now. What I will do is share what I’m seeing in the sector — the patterns, the tensions, the questions worth sitting with.

Sometimes that means a short observation. Sometimes it means a harder question. And the harder questions are the ones that matter most — because the people building purposeful, legacy-driven work are transformed by them — into the foundation their work requires.
